ClustanGraphics Tutorial

Answer Sheet

1.  Why are there larger ranges for water and fat?  (Hint: find the animals that have the smallest and largest percentages).

2.  What are the ranges for protein and lactose?

3.  What are the standard scores for the mammals' milk data?  Copy the table here.

4.  What outliers did you find using single linkage?  (Hint: a cluster of two extreme cases can be considered as two outliers).

5.  What are the criterion values in Tree/Best Cut for the 4-cluster solution using Average Linkage clustering?

6.  What is the fusion value at which the 4-cluster solution is reduced to 3 clusters, and why is it significant?

7.  Copy the table of cluster means for the 4-cluster solution here.  Now pivot the table and copy this one too.

8.  Copy your preferred dendrogram here.  Why do you prefer it?

9.  Open the table of cluster members (Members Table File.txt) in Excel, and sort the 4-clusters column in descending order.  Copy your sorted table here.

10.  How many cases are assigned to each of the 4 clusters?
