Most of the time you don't have to do anything to display your tree, as ClustanGraphics generally sets all the defaults to the
current tree and then displays it. But if you are displaying something else, for example a shaded proximity matrix or a scatterplot, then you can get back to your tree by clicking the Display Tree button. ClustanGraphics has several features to help you display your tree exactly the
way you want it. Firstly, there's a useful Modify palette which can be opened from the View menu.  This lets you select the intensity of shading, and adjust the vertical and
horizontal dimensions of your tree. You can also change your labels font by clicking the font button, or vary the number of clusters that are shaded. Clicking on the
Navigate Tree button changes to a different top-down view
which may be more suitable for large data mining applications. Clicking the Tree Settings button allows you to change several display attributes of your tree:
- Vertical and horizontal dimensions
- Line thickness and spacing
- Line, background and text colours
- Within-cluster and between-cluster shading
- Labelling font, style, size and colour
- Coefficient offset, adjusts where the tree starts
- Coefficient scale, minimum, increments, maximum and format
- Titles for tree and coefficient scale
The Tree Settings dialogue displays a sample tree to show the effects of your changes as you enter them, as above. You can also optimally reorder
your tree, so that it reads logically from top to bottom. The Tree Labels button lets you change your labels for cases and clusters. Clicking this button
brings up a dialogue which allows you either to type new labels selectively into a pull-down list, or paste them from the Clipboard. You can also enter or change your title. And if you don't want labels at
all, you can switch them off.
A Coefficient Scale giving a key to the values of the clustering criterion or similarity coefficient can be
displayed at the foot of the tree. The key values are computed as defaults but can be varied in the tree settings dialogue, and an optional coefficient title can be added, as shown in the following example. Finally, if you have a very large tree you may wish to save it in sections, such that it will span several
